About the wren
A small bird, big voice. That’s the WREN. Standing at only four inches long, this small songbird seems insignificant. Sporting a common brown color, it pales in comparison to other species around its size, like the goldfinch, whose bright yellow feathers draw your eye from across great distances. But one thing sets it apart…its song is one of the prettiest and LOUDEST heard in the bird community.
The wren’s song, when sung by males, is used to attract a mate, which they keep for life, and the female’s song offers a warning for other animals to stay away from its nest. Wrens live a clean life, eliminating wastes from their nest in ingenious ways. Some cultures find them to be signs of good luck and prosperity. But at all times they are known for bringing joy and positivity, courage, and inspiration.
Why is the wren important to ME?
The wren and I have much in common. At barely five feet, I’m small but when I have something to say, I say it loud. Unlike the wren’s joyous song, these traits haven’t always applied to me. Finding a reason to complain is easy. God made me painfully aware of the impact a pessimistic attitude can have on people, but He is good and merciful and constantly opens my eyes to what true joy is and how to embrace it. Sharing it with others becomes the next step. Writing inspirational stories is a tool of blessing.
It is a way to remind people, especially Christians, of the gifts God has given us. We sit and lament when we should be shouting for joy and pointing the praise to Him who gives us the very breath in our lungs. Breath we can use to bring honor to Him through our words and actions.
We must be like the small, but impactful song of the wren, and sing to the world the song of joy that only Jesus brings. The world is big and we are small, but God can use our voices to reach many. So sing LOUD, be BOLD, and don’t give into the hopelessness the world displays. Hope can be found, when you know just where to look.
